Something really scary about the oceans on our planet is that we have only explored 5 percent of them. As you probably know, there are five oceans on Earth, which are massive bodies of water containing so much unique life.
The fact that we have only explored 5 percent of the oceans might make it seem like we don’t know much, but we actually know a lot. We have dived, swum, and travelled underwater, so here are some of our discoveries.
First, I’m going to talk about not animals, but other life in the ocean. The ocean floor is made of sand and rock, which has sea grass and other plants growing out of it. Also, you can find colourful coral reefs where fish can thrive, and the ocean seems so alive.
Now, some animal facts!
The largest animal in the ocean — and the whole of Earth — is the blue whale. It is 25 metres long and eats small fish to survive. These giants eat krill, which is a type of really small fish.
There are some animals that can live in water and on land, like the sea turtle, and there are some that can perform tricks, like dolphins. There are scary predators like sharks, and even creatures from the Jurassic age, like the megalodon, lived in our oceans.
We keep discovering more in our oceans, and it’s really interesting. Who knows what we will find next? The amount of creatures that could exist that we don’t know about is huge, and discovering them is so fascinating.
