Reading the heading, you will probably be surprised, as these two locations’ food is not often talked about. Even though these two locations don’t have their own national dishes, it is interesting to learn what is eaten there. Let’s take a look.
In Antarctica, some people go on missions and live for a period of time in a station where food can be quite luxurious compared to space. There are many hot meals and basic things like fruit that would seem impossible to have in Antarctica.
Some of the dishes often served on the main menu in these stations are pizzas and curries. There are more options like roasts, tacos, and stir-fries, but you can see how much variety from different countries is served here.
Moving on to space food, there is not the same luxury in hot ready meals, but instead, they come in a pouch. These dishes usually will not be the best, as they have to meet many conditions.
A particularly interesting story is when fresh fruit was sent to astronauts, which cost hundreds of pounds. This was very controversial, but debates were calmed as people realised how bad the food in space could be, and even a couple of pieces of fresh fruit could change an astronaut’s trip.
