Where Does The Day Go?

It may seem like you have loads of time to do things in the day, but it's actually surprisingly a small amount. In 24 hours you really don't spend a lot of it doing what you want, so let's look at where all the time goes.

The average person sleeps for 8 hours and works/attends school for 6 to 8 hours, so already that's 14 to 16 hours of the day lost, leaving you with 8 to 10 hours.

Now the smaller tasks like checking your phone; if you check once every half hour for one minute, that's approximately another 15 minutes gone. In your 8 to 10 hours of three times, if you go to the toilet three times for 5 minutes, you've lost another 15 minutes. Finally, if you have a snack for 10 minutes and a meal in 20, you've lost a whole hour to small tasks.

Next, let's include travel time. If you spend 15 minutes walking around your house (in your remaining 7 to 9 hours of free time) and spend 45 minutes travelling to work/school and back, you've lost another hour.

Not all the measurements above may be accurate to you, but they are the average times for each task. In the end you are left with only 6 to 8 hours of free time — a lot less than the 8 to 10 before.
