Some people live with pre-set obstacles in their life in everything they do. It can be a struggle for disabled people to confidently get out of the house, in a world tailored to those who can easily live without extra support.
This is why Ellesmere Port News has partnered with Euan’s Guide, a disabled access charity working to ease the stress caused by a lack of disabled access information. They’re a charity that works hard to make it easier, safer and more rewarding for families, friends and carers to discover accessible places by sharing knowledge to give everyone the confidence to enjoy everyday activities.
One thing Euan’s Guide promotes is safer toilets. They help provide ‘red cord cards’ which say “Please let this red cord hang all the way down to the ground. Otherwise it may prevent a disabled person from asking for help.” These help keep toilets accessible by attempting to prevent people from tying up cords or cutting them.
The EP News team’s Jake and Maggie helped spread these in some local buildings such as Asda, Morrisons and Ellesmere Port Library to do their part in creating a kinder and less stressful world for everyone.
YOU can do your part too! You’re able to order 10 free red cord cards ready to be distributed around any other local establishments that need them by following the link below:
