The Science Behind Reading

Over the past few years, there has been a decline in reading due to new technology and other activities. In a world like ours, it is easy to get hooked on a new game or hobby, but it's important to remember that reading for pleasure is good for you and can be very enjoyable.

 

Not all reading has to be long chapter books; you can find something that you like and will want to read! Some examples of alternatives for chapter books are magazines, comics or even reading online. It's important to find something that suits you so you actually want to read more.

 

You may be asking, though, why should I read instead of doing something else like gaming? There are actually many advantages to reading. Firstly, you learn new vocabulary, which can make your creative writing better. Furthermore, reading is good for your mental health and wellbeing along with improving your critical thinking.

 

If you do want to start reading more, it is important to designate some time in your day to do so. Good advice is to find a quiet and cosy space and maybe even put on some non-lyrical music to block out unwanted noise. One of the best times to read is before you go to sleep, which can help you relax and cut out screen time.
