An Ellesmere Port Theatre Company, The Boaty Theatre, performed in Westminster Gardens, showcasing their talent and their love for acting.
The Boaty Theatre, ran by Terasa Newton-Harris BEM and Laura Harris, was located at 'The Boat Shed' on Whitby Road before being evicted from their rehearsal space in April 2023 because of issues with the building. Despite this set-back, Laura and Teresa decided to carry on the much-loved hub for young performers. Spreading positivity in their hometown, many residents supported them in their journey to the top.
I attended one of their shows with Cllr Lisa Denson, and we watched their production (Much Ado About Nothing), which we both agreed on was absolutely amazing. The show, performed by young and old, showed how hard they worked on the Shakespeare-inspired recital. During the event, many residents gathered round to enjoy a special afternoon, with sunny weather. The audience enjoyed hotdogs, burgers and fizzy drinks, given for free.
At about 3pm, the performance started with some music, and actors dancing. This continued numerous times during the act, creating a feel-good mood in everybody around. Since Ellesmere Port News has been a thing, we have visited 3 productions, and out of all of them, may I say Much Ado About Nothing was my favourite. With skills like nobody else's, it shows how much the team had worked on it.
Westminster Gardens, where the show was held, is a community garden in Ellesmere Port. Residents find any opportunity possible to relax here, and unwind. Councillor Lisa Denson told us "The garden is really unique, one of it's kind really, because we have a tree from the 'Tree of Trees' planted, which was from the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022". The Rowan tree was presented to the Group at a ceremony on Tuesday 24 January 2023 at George Street Bowling Green in Ellesmere Port.
Safe to say, the team at Ellesmere Port News recommend going to one of the many performances by The Boaty Theatre. But.. dont worry! There is still chance to watch it.. At Poynton Arts Festival, held on Saturday 28th of June at Vernon Primary School, you can watch this incredible recital for yourself by following this link:
