Valentine's Day Special

Every year on the 14th of February, people celebrate their love for one another in many different ways. This can include cards, gifts, quality time together, or something else. In today’s article, you can find out what used to happen, when it started, and why.

The start of the story is in Roman times, where two main events happened. The first was a priest who married soldiers even though the emperor had banned marriage, as he thought single men made better soldiers. The second event was about an imprisoned man called Valentine, who healed his jailer’s daughter’s eyes—she was blind - and he signed a note “from your Valentine.”

Romans also followed a god called Cupid, who was a small baby with a bow of love. It was believed that he would fire arrows of love at people to make them fall in love. He is still used today, but less frequently compared to gods in other religions.

Many hundreds of years later, in the 1800s and 1900s, companies began to produce products for Valentine’s Day. In the 1840s, an American company started mass-producing cards. In 1868, Cadbury started producing heart-shaped chocolates in a box, sold to be given as a gift to someone you love.

Because of these roots, we continue to celebrate to this day, sharing love and building bonds. I hope you have found this article interesting and have a great Valentine’s Day.
