It's a common fear to be afraid or nervous to speak in front of crowds, but there are solutions to overcome this. When we speak in front of crowds, we do things that we don't realise and overthink about things.
Some mistakes people make are reading straight off a script or keeping their head down and not looking at the crowd. Other mistakes are using filler words and having bad posture, so it's important to know what the correct thing to do is.
First is the reading of a script, which usually ties in with looking down and not at the audience. It is important to have notes of what you're talking about so you don't forget, but a script is not the way to go. Use shorter flashcards that just hit the main points and look forward (towards the back if you're nervous).
Next is the common use of filler words such as 'like' and 'you know', which make the speech sound unprofessional and you unprepared. Replace these filler words with pauses and take a breath before continuing speaking.
Last is your posture, which is actually more important than you think. Not only does bad posture make you look bad, but it also doesn't allow what you speak to reach the back of the audience. Remember to keep your head up, loosen your shoulders, keep your feet still and speak clearly.
Public speaking can actually be something to enjoy and not to fear if you know what to do. Even experienced people make some of the mistakes in this article, but it's all about practice. If you can practise your skills, you'll be a master in no time.
