There are many types of mayors, but in Ellesmere Port we have a town mayor. A town mayor's job is to chair council meetings, represent the borough at national and international functions and visit events organised by local charities and community groups. A town mayor is elected every four years, with the last election being in 2023, using the 'first past the post' system. To vote, you must be eligible to vote in local elections.
Currently, our town mayor is Mayor & Cllr Katie Kendrick OBE, who also represents the Netherpool ward as a councillor.
A town mayor picks three charities, which they will support, fundraise and work closely with; these chosen charities are up to the mayor to decide. The Annual Meeting of the Council, informally the Mayor Making, happens every year (usually in May), where the Mayor, who has been elected, receives the regalia and chains of office, and they announce the new mayor's chosen charities, consort, and goals for the coming year.
